Shot Clocks, Game Timers and the Scoreboard With Buzzer
Australian made shot clocks, game clocks and horn systems, synchronised with your ESA scoreboard from one controller. Call 1300 023 422.
Nobody notices the horn until it sounds a fraction late with the shot in the air. A scoreboard with buzzer, shot clocks and game clock all driven by one controller means the score, the clock and the horn agree, and the referee has one thing to rule on rather than three. ESA builds that timing gear at our facility in Victoria to run with our scoreboards, from school gyms to the stadiums we supply as long-term suppliers to numerous NBL/NBL1 facilities nationally.
- 24-second shot clocks with 14-second reset, synchronised to the main scoreboard and horn
- Game clock and period timing on every ESA court scoreboard, with time-outs and team fouls for basketball
- Siren and shot clock buzzer sounded from the scorer's wireless controller
- Centralised carnival timing, so every court in the venue runs wirelessly off the same clock
- Every ESA court scoreboard is available with shot clocks, now or added later
What a Scoreboard With Buzzer Does on Game Day
Two sounds run a basketball game. The main horn marks the end of a period, a time-out or a substitution, and the shot clock buzzer marks a violation. ESA runs both from the one wireless controller with the game clock. The horn sounds when the clock hits zero without anyone reaching for a button, and the scorer has a clearly labelled button for time-outs and subs.
Shot Clocks: 24 Seconds Down, 14 Seconds Back
A basketball shot clock in senior competition runs 24 seconds, with a 14-second reset after an offensive rebound, and the three have to work as one system or the referee is guessing. ESA shot clocks mount above the backboards or at the court corners, sync with the main scoreboard, and reset from the controller your scorer is already holding.
School and junior domestic competitions often play without a shot clock, so every ESA basketball and universal scoreboard is available with shot clocks and can have them added when your competition needs them. Running the cabling at the original install is cleaner, so if your association is heading towards shot clock rules, say so when you quote.
Game Clocks and Timers for the Rest of the Program
A clock for basketball has to read from the far baseline. ESA court boards carry game time in 190mm digits on the compact SB9001-XR and 200mm digits on the SB9004-XR and Pro-5, with period beside it and, in basketball mode, time-outs and team fouls.
Running a carnival? Centralised timing runs every court in the venue wirelessly off the same clock, so the netball or futsal tournament stays on schedule. It is available on ESA netball and universal boards.
Overs matter more than seconds in cricket, but a cricket timer still earns its place for innings breaks and T20 cut-offs. The AFL300-TM carries a real time clock as standard, and a countdown timer for innings breaks is available on request.
Controllers and Score Benches
Every shot clock and timer runs from ESA’s own multi-sport controllers, the CC-10, CC-XR and SCT-4, which handle scoreboards and shot clocks together. The wireless controller is built so a parent volunteer can run the clock, scores, period, fouls and shot clock resets from clearly labelled buttons after two minutes of instruction. Stadium courts add a score bench with the controller, shot clock reset and horn in one station. Spare controllers and battery packs are also available.
Shot Clock and Timer Pricing
Adding synchronised 24-second shot clocks to a club-level basketball board typically moves the system into the $8,000 to $15,000 range, depending on digit size and venue. If you already own an ESA board, a shot clock pair is quoted on its own, starting at $2,000. Quotes are itemised, installation included, and grant-ready.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the scoreboard buzzer sound automatically?
Yes. The horn sounds when the game clock reaches zero and when the shot clock expires, both from the same controller, and the scorer has a button for time-outs and substitutions. On outdoor AFL and cricket boards the siren does the same job from the wireless controller, and the AFL300-TM adds a real time clock.
Can I add shot clocks to a scoreboard I already own?
If it’s an ESA board, yes. Every ESA basketball and universal scoreboard is available with shot clocks, and a pair can be added later and synchronised to the existing controller. Scoreboards from other manufacturers are assessed case by case.
What shot clock does my basketball competition need?
Senior representative competitions generally require a 24-second shot clock with a 14-second reset after an offensive rebound. Many junior and school domestic competitions run without one. Check your association’s rules, and if you’re not there yet, tell us when you quote.
Do you make a shot clock for water polo?
ESA supplies water polo scoreboards, and the shot clock hardware can be configured for the 28-second possession clock and 18-second reset the sport uses.
How is the game clock controlled during play?
From a wireless controller at the score bench. Start, stop, period changes and time-outs are single-button operations designed for volunteers, and your regular scorers get a walkthrough at handover.
Clock, shot clock, horn, one button.
