Cricket Scoreboards Built for Long Days in Full Sun
Electronic cricket scoreboards designed and manufactured in Victoria for club grounds and school ovals. Call 1300 023 422.
A cricket scoreboard works longer hours than any other board on the ground. Six hours in January heat, read from the far boundary, updated after every ball by whoever lost the toss for scoring duty. ESA cricket scoreboards are built at our facility in Victoria for that job, with digits sized to the board so the total reads from the fence and a weatherproof enclosure that shrugs off summer storms and stray cover drives (and the occasional six).
- Runs, wickets and overs in ultra-bright, wide-angle LED digits
- Team names and a variable message sign for sponsors and notices
- Weatherproof, maintenance free enclosure with an impact resistant, UV stabilised polycarbonate front
- Switches to goals, behinds and points for AFL in winter, one board for the whole year
- Australian made, with itemised quotes that include installation
What an Electronic Cricket Scoreboard Shows
The AFL300-TM, our outdoor board for shared ovals, displays runs, wickets and overs in 320mm digits, sized so the far boundary reads the same total as the non-striker. Team names run across a 300mm dot matrix display, and a 300mm variable message sign carries sponsor messages, the target, or the sausage sizzle notice. Individual batter totals and sundries panels can be specified for clubs that want the full card on the board. If the parents at the fence need help with the numbers, our guide to reading a cricket scoreboard covers the lot.
One Board, Two Seasons
Most cricket grounds in Australia are footy ovals from April to September. The AFL300-TM is built for that arrangement, displaying goals, behinds, points and game time in winter and runs, wickets and overs in summer, from the same digits and the same wireless controller.
Built for the Boundary Fence
Outdoor scoreboards fail in three ways. The sun washes out the digits, the weather gets into the electronics, and a ball or a bored teenager cracks the front. ESA cricket scoreboards answer all three, starting with the enclosure, which is weatherproof and maintenance free, designed for permanent outdoor mounting. The front screen is impact resistant, UV stabilised polycarbonate that takes a ball strike. The LEDs are ultra-bright and wide-angle behind a frosted screen, so the total reads at midday in December from the side as well as straight on.
Every board is manufactured at ESA’s own facility in Victoria, so spare parts sit on a shelf here (rather than on a ship!) and the people who built your board answer the phone on the Friday before a semi-final.
Scoring From the Shade
A digital cricket scoreboard is only as good as the person on the controller, and at club level that is a parent who has never done it before. The scorer runs an ESA board from a wireless controller in the clubrooms or the scorer’s box, updating runs, wickets and overs from clearly labelled buttons, with the siren on the same controller. Your regular scorers get a walkthrough at handover.
Live scoring is the next question from most cricket clubs. PlayHQ integration comes standard in SVI, ESA’s in-house scoring software, so the board can follow the same live scoring your association already runs rather than a second set of button presses. Tell us how your association scores and we’ll confirm the setup for your ground.
What Cricket Scoreboards Cost, and Who Pays
Compact outdoor-rated boards typically run from $8,000 to $15,000, and full-size oval boards like the AFL300-TM, or LED video screens, run from $15,000 to $50,000+ depending on digit size and options. Every quote is itemised with installation included, and the price you're quoted is the price you pay.
Most club scoreboards are grant funded through state sport and recreation rounds, council grants and code-specific programs, and an itemised ESA quote on letterhead is the document those applications need. A sponsorship panel helps too, because the major sponsor's name sits where every spectator looks, every game, for decades. Our guide to scoreboard grants and funding covers the programs worth watching.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a cricket scoreboard cost in Australia?
Outdoor cricket scoreboards from ESA typically range from $8,000 to $15,000 for compact outdoor-rated boards and $15,000 to $50,000+ for full-size oval boards with team names and message signs. Your quote is itemised, includes installation, and goes into a grant application as it stands.
Can the scoreboard show individual batter scores and names?
Individual batter totals and sundries panels can be specified when you enquire, along with a last wicket display, so list everything your scorers want on the board and we’ll quote it.
Does it work with PlayHQ or other live scoring apps?
Yes. PlayHQ integration comes standard in SVI, ESA’s in-house scoring software, so the scoreboard can follow your association’s live scoring. If your competition scores on a different platform, tell us which one when you enquire and we’ll confirm what the board can take.
Can we use the same scoreboard for AFL?
Yes. The AFL300-TM displays goals, behinds, points and game time in winter and runs, wickets and overs in summer, from the same controller.
Will it survive ball strikes and weather?
Yes. The front screen is impact resistant, UV stabilised polycarbonate, the enclosure is weatherproof and designed for permanent outdoor mounting, and the LED brightness stays readable in direct sunlight.
How long does delivery and installation take?
Boards are manufactured at our Victorian facility, so lead times depend on the current production schedule and your specification. Our typical lead time from confirmation of order is 4-8 weeks, depending on scope and options. Installation is arranged with delivery and includes controller training.
Runs, wickets, overs, readable from the boundary.
